JOIN THE THE HGSE GREEN TEAM
Join the HGSE Green Team
All students, faculty and staff interested in making our campus healthier and more sustainable are welcome to attend the monthly HGSE Green Team meetings, which are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 12-12:45pm:
- September 15
- October 20
- November 17
- January 19
- February 16
- March 16
- April 20
- May 18
Meetings are now hybrid so you may either join us in person in the Gutman Conference Center, Event Area 8 (the boardroom facing Brattle Street) or on Zoom (password: Password: 021669).
At each meeting, we take time sharing what sustainability projects each of us is currently working on for school, work or at home; reflect on our team’s most recent initiatives; and brainstorm and plan for new campaigns and projects. Beyond providing a space to tackle projects, meetings provide a great opportunity to get to know people from all across the Ed School.
To join our community over email, subscribe to the HGSE Green Team mailing list.
APPLY TO BE AN HGSE SUSTAINABILITY FELLOW
Apply to be an HGSE Sustainability Fellow
Students, beyond taking these first steps, consider applying to be one of our HGSE Sustainability Fellows. As a fellow, you will work alongside the HGSE Sustainability Coordinator to develop your individual or group project that will push our school to become even more sustainable. Past projects have included planning for a food pantry for food insecure students, a (virtual) bike week, a waste reduction quiz and lectures on how climate change intersects with disability and immigration. Learn more and apply at https://green.harvard.edu/group/hgse-sustainability-fellows
Our popular Freecycle events promoting reuse are on hold for now out of an abundance of caution around Covid but you can still choose to reuse at the Harvard Recycling and Surplus Center in Allston, currently open on Thursdays, 10am-2pm:
- Shop there for a previously loved item before buying new. There you will find clothes, school supplies, home goods, furniture and much more.
- Donate items you no longer need instead of tossing them in the trash during their Thursday hours. If that isn’t convenient for you, consider donating to an organization close to home (check out Earth911 for suggestions). Some organizations will even allow you to schedule a pick up.
Green Your Office
Staff and faculty, as you prepare to return to campus, make your department HGSE’s next certified Harvard Green Office by taking the following steps:

- Download and review the application form
- Collaborate with your colleagues to earn points for green actions
